Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the post of RESEARCH SCIENTIST.

RESEARCH SCIENTIST - TISSUE CULTURE (SALARY $4,266,270 p.a.)

This position is responsible for providing solution-oriented technical assistance and conducting scientific research in the completion of projects assigned to the Product Research Development Division. These projects will involve research, product development, analysis and design. The division is results and solution oriented and as such the demands of the clients and the general populace drive the actions of the incumbent. The incumbent is also required to assist in popularizing science and technology through strategic alliance, by being customer focused and to create and participate in innovative, competent and responsive team.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

  • MSc/M.Phil. in Biotechnology/Horticulture or relevant natural science area or equivalent academic qualification.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint Outlook).
  • Training in Project Management.
  • Experience with plant tissue culture required

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum three (3) years’ experience in research.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND SPECIALISED TECHNIQUES

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good analytical, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team or as a team leader.
  • Excellent customer service orientation.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, coordinate and/or implement activities in assigned projects.
  • Provides technical leadership, assistance and consultation to project teams, clients and other individual committees of the Council.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of projects profiles and proposal for approval and funding.
  • Carry out field trials/surveys and technical/environmental assessments.
  • Conducts detailed studies/investigations to determine the most cost-effective solutions to process problems.
  • Conduct Literature review for new and known techniques to enhance research work.
  •  High throughput plant multiplication of several agricultural and horticultural crops.
  • Develop design parameters and performance criteria for full – scale processes.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.
