Project Background
The Scientific Research Council (SRC) has established a Technology Commercialization Support Office (TCSO), funded by the Development Bank of Jamaica Limited through the BIGEE (Boosting Innovation Growth and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems) program. The project which is intended to be for one (1) year, aims at fostering innovation and technology commercialization in Jamaica by providing technical, scientific, and commercial assessment services to researchers, inventors, and innovative start-ups; develop and implement a robust framework for technology assessment and commercialization; partnering with industry stakeholders for the successful commercialization of technologies and facilitating the commercialization of high potential inventions in Jamaica.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of the SRC, the Manager of TCSO will oversee all activities aimed at meeting the project’s objectives. Additionally, the Manager will be responsible for fostering relationships with industry partners and ensure project compliance with national and institutional policies. The successful candidate will coordinate with the National Technology Commercialization Programme (NTCP), the Caribbean Climate Innovation Center (CCIC), and the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ).

Educational Requirement

  •  Advanced degree in Science, Engineering, Business or Law.
  •  Strong understanding of intellectual property law, commercialization agreements, and licensing.
    Experience
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in technology commercialization or a related field.
  • Previous experience leading a technology transfer office or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical concept to diverse audiences, preparing reports, and negotiating agreements.
  • Good Leadership, supervisory and motivational skills.
  • Excellent customer service orientation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to deliver presentations and facilitate workshops for internal staff, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite applications
  • Ability to provide tailored support and guidance to clients, balancing project goals with client satisfaction.
  • Strong strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
    Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic and operational plans to guide the TCSO based on SRC’s goals and priorities.
  • Guide team or other personnel in executing technology transfer, licensing, market research, and business development activities.
  • Manage budgeting, infrastructure setup, financial planning, and administrative tasks.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive commercialization strategies for bringing technology to market.
  • Monitor compliance and progress of technology commercialization activities.
  • Develop outreach and education programs for researchers, staff, and students on intellectual property and commercialization.
  • Collaborate with CCIC to deliver business development services and training for TCSO clients.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, NTCP, and BIGEE policies, and legal/regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that the work of consultants aligns with the overall strategy and goals of the TCSO projects.
  • Coordinating with other departments or teams to facilitate cross-functional collaboration if needed.
  • Reviewing the output of consultants or specialized personnel for adherence to project standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies.
  • Providing logistical or technical support to help consultants achieve their goals effectively.
  • Overseeing contractual obligations and ensuring that consultants meet their deliverables within the specified terms.
