The Scientific Research Council (SRC) is at the forefront of environmentally sound wastewater management in Jamaica, dedicated to mitigating the impact of wastewater from our natural resources and ecosystems. With over 360 successfully commissioned systems including biodigesters, Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blankets (UASB), and Biodigester Septic Tanks (BSTTM), our Wastewater Management Unit is instrumental in providing sustainable solutions for communities, companies, and individuals across the nation.

TEAM LEADER – WASTEWATER UNIT (Salary $6,333,301 + 25% Gratuity based on performance)

 Summary of the Post

Team Leader of the Wastewater Management Unit, will spearhead our efforts to design, implement, and manage advanced wastewater treatment systems. This leadership role demands a proactive approach to overseeing the unit's operations, ensuring the achievement of our environmental and sustainability objectives. The incumbent is also required to lead strategic research aimed at improving current and or designing new wastewater management systems that may yield commercial benefits to the SRC.

The Team Leader will play a pivotal role in advancing SRC’s mission for environmentally sound wastewater management. You will leverage your expertise and leadership skills to inspire your team, drive innovation, and foster partnerships that contribute to the environmental well-being of Jamaica.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or a related
  • Master’s degree or additional certifications in Wastewater Management or related areas are highly
  • Proficiency in AUTOCAD and Microsoft (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint).

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of Three years relevant experience in wastewater management, including direct experience with anaerobic treatment systems.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND SPECIALISED TECHNIQUES

  • Expertise in the design and operation of wastewater treatment systems, including biodigesters and
  • Proficiency in conducting feasibility studies and environmental impact
  • Strong project management and technical supervision
  • Ability to monitor, test, and ensure compliance with effluent
  • Competence in providing technical consultancy and training in wastewater

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage the Wastewater Management Unit, guiding the team towards successful project execution and innovation in wastewater treatment.
  • Oversee the design, construction, and operation of wastewater treatment
  • Conduct and supervise feasibility studies, system monitoring, and effluent testing to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Provide technical supervision and consultancy services for the construction and management of wastewater systems.
  • Prepare reports for regulatory bodies such as NEPA and conduct research into waste management
  • Organize and facilitate training workshops to promote knowledge sharing in wastewater
  • Assign projects to the Process Development Officers/Engineers and the
  • Supervise Officers/Engineers in carrying out field surveys and technical/environmental
