Popularizing and Fostering Culture of Science, Technology & Innovation
School Science Education Services – Enhance teaching of science in schools through the establishment and maintenance of science clubs/ societies at the primary and secondary levels.
Planning and execution of events to build capacity within the educational system:
Teacher training workshops;
Students – Career talks, science summer camps.
Competitions – essay and poster; innovation in science – science fairs; oratorical and performing arts. Entrants have since won Caribbean competitions with one entrant commercializing a suite of personal care products.
Web based platform to assist CSEC students in science
Hosting of Science and Technology Conference during November, Science and Technology Month to bring focus on relevant scientific topics; increase awareness and influence policy.
Young Scientist & Technologist Award – since 1990 to 2016 SRC has recognized 21 Jamaican scientists. These persons have excelled in their respective fields and includes Dr. Andrew Wheatley (Jamaica’s Minister of Science, Energy and Technology); Dr. Andre Gordon and Dr. Lyndon Johnson – entrepreneurs in the field of science; Prof. Dale Webber (Pro Vice Chancellor, UWI); Dr. Paula Tennant, Dr. Marcia Royes, Dr. Maxine Gossell-Williams and Dr. Nadale Riley (academic staff – UWI); Dr. Cliff Riley (Executive Director, SRC).
Innovations In Science & Technology Awards – Since 2005 to 2016 the SRC in collaboration with its parent ministry and the NCST has collaborated to recognize and celebrate outstanding achievements in scientific and technological based innovations. Some Overall Winners include:
